IBC 2011: Enterprise sQ stays ahead with 'Filespeed'

Quantel's news/sports production system gets more file handling capabilities, increased performance and reduced costs

9 September 2011: At IBC 2011 Quantel launched 'Filespeed' for its Enterprise sQ News/Sports production system. Filespeed is a major upgrade that lowers costs, increases performance and further boosts file-based workflows. Filespeed includes:

  • Faster and easier file-based workflows including XDCAM HD using sQ Fileflow
  • Edge browse creation that delivers quicker file-based workflows and reduces server cost
  • Faster software editors using CUDA GPU acceleration - up to 4 x quicker
  • Faster and easier playout with the new LiveTouch option
  • Full screen monitor output on sQ Edit desktop editor increases flexibility and reduces system costs

"Enterprise sQ is the leading news and sports production system and Filespeed keeps it ahead," said Steve Owen, Quantel Director of Marketing. "It's right on message as far as our many broadcast customers are concerned - enhanced file handling capabilities, taking more advantage of COTS hardware and helping them save money."

Here's the Filespeed details:

Faster and easier file-based workflows using sQ Fileflow

sQ Fileflow is an SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) component that enables a fast, scalable and transparent workflow for handling XDCAM HD and P2 files in Enterprise sQ. The Fileflow Manager monitors the ingest folder for new files; the Fileflow Manager assigns jobs, handles priorities and provides an easy to understand GUI so users can see at a glance the file i/o status. Fileflow Engines handle the actual ingest or export of file content. The result is simple but powerful automation of file import and export without requiring external automation control.

Edge Browse for quicker file-based workflows

Edge browse creates browse media for file ingests in the ingest application rather than in the sQ servers. Creating browse media in the ingest device means file content is available to everyone the second ingest is started. Overall system costs are reduced as the sQ server no longer need handle browse for file ingests.

CUDA accelerated software editors

Quantel's sQ Edit desktop editor can now take advantage of GPU based rendering through newly enabled support for the NVIDIA Quadro card. This boosts performance by up to four times using CUDA rendering. It means that sQ Edit desktop users can produce complex effects and packages faster than ever and at a lower cost too.

Faster and easier playout with LiveTouch

LiveTouch introduces the ability to perform live sports highlighting and playout from a single workstation. Operators load a live ingest onto a port and use the Quantel jog/shuttle controller to search backwards and forwards along the clip, mark in and out points and add highlight clips to a playlist.

Full screen monitor output on sQ Edit

To match the craft editing power of the new CUDA equipped sQ Edit desktop editors, they have been equipped with a full screen output so that work in progress can be reviewed at full broadcast quality, saving time and guaranteeing great results every time.
